Mark Wheatley 10th Australian Peptide Conference 2013

Mark Wheatley

Professor Mark Wheatley was appointed to the position of Chair of Biochemical Pharmacology in 2007 within the School of Biosciences at the University of Birmingham in the UK. His research addresses the structure and function of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) particularly those with peptide ligands. Understanding the activation mechanisms of the subfamily of GPCRs which bind vasopressin and oxytocin has been a particular focus and his research has identified key residues and domains involved in ligand binding selectivity and agonism. His research has also included collaborative projects with several multi-national pharmaceutical companies. Prof Wheatley is an active member of the Biochemical Society in the UK and has served on the Biochemical Society Executive and Council.
