Anthony J. Turner
Tony Turner is Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Leeds, U.K. He obtained his B.A. in Natural Sciences and Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry from the University of Cambridge U.K. and then undertook post-doctoral research at the Mario Negri Institute of Pharmacology in Milan, Italy. Since then he has spent most of his academic career in Leeds having served for eight years as Head of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and subsequently as Dean of Biological Sciences. He was Chief Editor of the Biochemical Journal from 1987 – 1994 and was also Chief Editor of the Journal of Neurochemistry from 1999 – 2010. His research interests focus on the structure, function and regulation of peptide processing enzymes, especially zinc metalloproteases involved in neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases. Their roles and potential as therapeutic targets in diseases of aging is a particular focus of his laboratory.
